Going Green And Getting Off The Grid
Lately I've been doing a lot of research on 'going green' or more importantly getting your house off the grid. With today being 'Earth Day' I thought it would be fitting to write up a quick post about this fascinating subject. Personally, I find this an extremely interesting subject because although I strongly believe that we all have to do our part to help the environment, I also feel a financial pull towards achieving this. Wouldn't it be great to get a hydro bill in the mail that was $0 or even better, was telling you that your hydro company owes YOU money!

Setting penalties instead of rewards,
This months Money Sense magazine has an interesting article ("How to buy a will of iron" by Duncan Hood) that talks about setting rewards for making sure you accomplish your new years resolutions and any personal goals you set. He basically says that because of peoples natural aversion to loosing money, you are more likely to accomplish your goals if instead of setting a reward for doing something, you actually set a penalty for not doing it. So, for example, if you were going to give yourself a $100 gift for loosing that extra 5kg you gained over the holidays. Try saying you'll give that $100 away if you don't loose that extra 5kg.

Resurrect that Room
Is there a room in your house that you and your family tend to avoid? or possibly a room that just doesn't feel right, or is always just too crowded? There is a reason for these feelings towards these rooms, and with a reason, comes a solution. When a room becomes too cluttered, develops multiple purposes, or its purpose becomes non-important, they tend to start to give negative "vibes" which can cause unfavorable thoughts towards that room. Eventually you can end up avoiding the room completely, or if you still use the room, you will always feel uncomfortable or have a nagging feeling that something needs to be done while you are in the room.
