Fourth Edition of the Carnival of Improving Life
Welcome to the Fourth Edition of the Carnival of Improving Life
It seems that every week I am getting more and more submissions for this carnival, because of this I am thinking about starting to filter out some content that doesn't fall into the main "scope" of this carnival, as much as I'd like to let all articles go through, I am starting to think that having too many articles is a deterrent to our readers. For all our readers, please comment on this carnival and tell me what you would prefer, do you want to see a filtered list of submissions, or do you want me to continue to show all submissions and let you choose which ones you want to read??? please let me know what you'd prefer, after all, this carnival is for you!
Once again this weeks Top post award was a difficult decision, but this week I had a lot more articles to sift through, and this means more tough decisions. It was down to a bunch, but I have to pick one, and this one on self discipline felt right to me, because self discipline is something I beleive is important for anyone who wants to be successful in life. So, without any more delay, This weeks Top Post Award goes to: Paul Piotrowski presents Do Inspired Money Makers Need Self-Discipline? posted at Make Money Doing What You Love.

Chris Edgar presents How To Stop Work From Feeling Like Work posted at Purpose Power Coaching. It's an uncomfortable truth that, no matter how much passion and drive we go into a career with, it tends to start feeling like "work" after a while. In this article, I suggest that our work starts to feel oppressive and stifling when we become too identified with what we do. When we take our working roles too seriously, anxiety about our performance sets in and crowds out our joy. The way to remedy this, I suggest, is to stay connected with your body as you work, and thus with your deep rootedness in being. In this state of connectedness, even your routine tasks start to feel like "play" again. I suggest a few exercises to accomplish this in practice.

Dominic Tay presents Open your Eyes to All Possibilities: Help your Self All the Way at Personal Development for Winners posted at Personal Development Blog for Winners. Can a PHD or Masters program in top universities teach you your ultimate ways to success? I personally believe that business, personal success or personal improvement isn’t measured by the academic programs you’ve underwent but it’s more of how you develop your soft skills in gauging your success. What I mean is that in terms of promoting self-growth or your business entrepreneurship, it’s important that you aren’t just academically inclined but sensible at the same time. Why? The reason is that most of life’s practical applications are observed when you could open your eyes wide.

I have long felt that the common advice to "Keep it Simple, Stupid" is a conflicting and demeaning statement. To keep it simple is smart and wise. The stupid reference has not ever appealed to me, whether it relates to keeping it simple or making it complicated. So I have re-constructed the KISS acronym to be "Keep it Supremely Simple."

Howard Ditkoff presents Choosing Intimate Partners: To Repeat or Not to Repeat? posted at SystemsThinker.com Blog. Why do we repeatedly attract similarly unhealthy intimate partners and relationship patterns? Should we seek to escape such seemingly self-destructive cycles through safer, less intense relationships? Or do these patterns serve a purpose that we must respect, instead using a new approach to harness their energies toward healing and growth? In the midst of yet another challenging relationship, I deeply explore the unconscious roots and mechanisms of this “repetition compulsion” in the chemistry of our relationships. I also initiate a discussion about the dilemmas, paradoxes, catch-22’s, risks and rewards posed by two contrasting approaches to compatibility and conflict. In an era of dangerous polarizations and threats that demand engagement and resolution, it is a topic of great relevance to our families, society and world.

An interesting concept
Paul, Thats an interesting thought, because it gives the readers the 'filtered' section, but also leaves them with the choice of reading something that wouldn't have made it in.. I will thin about this some more over the weekend,
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks for including my article in the carnival.
Perhaps an alternative to filtering might be to organize the links up top as your favorites and then near the bottom have just bare links to other articles that didn't make your favorites list. Just a thought.
Paul Piotrowski
Filtered it will be,
Charlie, Lorraine, Aaron
Thanks for your input, I think you are 100% correct, unless someone can come up with a more convincing argument for not filtering, I am going to start to filter the carnival content next week. So make sure you submit your best stuff ;-)
ImprovedLife
I Vote for Filtering
Thanks for including my post in the carnival! On the matter of voting, I am in total agreement with Aaron. Carnivals lose a lot of their standing if everyone's post gets in. If I knew that a particular blog carnival was not filtered, I probably would not read through the different submissions. Additionally, filtering the carnival, and making it explicit that you do, encourages bloggers to either write better posts or only submit their best stuff. It's a win-win for everyone.
Filter or not?
Thanks for the inclusion!
I agree with Aaron. I have hosted several Carnivals and I always filtered to offer the strongest content. To filter I look at value added, writing style, clarity, and knowledge.
You have my vote!
Cheers,
Lorraine

Great Carnival
Great carnival once again. I just wanted to tell everyone that the link to my post at www.betweenusgirls.info is the wrong one. The article this week is "Come on Get Happy - The Taoist Approach to Life" and can be found in the spirituality or happiness categories. Thanks!
Thanks for your thoughts,
Aaron, I think you are right, Lets see what other responses I get here, but that is definitely the path I am leaning towards. At first I wanted to show everything because you never know what actually will improve the life of someone else, so there is a chance I might filter out an article that will have a profound effect on someones life, and do I want to take that "potential" life changing risk?
Everyone, Let me know what your thoughts are, To Filter, or Not to filter?
Filtering the carnival
Thanks a bunch for including my article about self improvement stagnation!
I totally agree that you should filter the submissions to this carnival. I run a blog carnival myself, and I have seen so many submissions that were either just not relevant to the theme of the carnival, or simply didn't provide that much value or information to the reader.
If blog carnivals are nothing more than a list of links, they will lose their value, and the entire blog carnival system will lose its value as a result.
