While I was outside yesterday ripping apart one of our flower gardens to make room for an extension on our deck. I started to think about how I got to where I am right now. What had happened in my life that brought me to this point. I wasn't thinking this because of any negative thoughts, but merely out of curiosity, how did I become who I am today, and for that matter, who will I be 5 years from now, how about 10 years from now? Is there something I can do to set myself on what I currently think is the right path, or will that path most likely change with time? Maybe it was from the heat but I had to sit down and think about this, I poured myself a nice cold glass of water and started to pet my dog on his head while I started to ponder this.

Here are some of my thoughts on this: So far in my life, I have had many different opportunities to chose a different career path, but I ended up going the route that I did, because of something I loved doing as a young adult. I used to play a lot of video games, and I was quite good at them, this led me into the computer science field. I do not program video games, but I am an experienced software developer in a completely different field, manufacturing and business processes. Another major input that lead me to become a programmer was my father, one of his many hobbies was to build work on computers. Naturally I picked this up and built my first computer, from scratch back when I was only in grade 5. But, back to my programming routes, In university I took courses that would lead me towards designing video games, like AI and computer graphics. So how come I didn't end up in that field? Well, fresh out of university I had to pay the rent and bills, so while I was looking for a full time programming job, I went to work in a manufacturing plant. It was here that I met the man that would bring me on to help with designing test software, and hence, lead me to where I am today. Did I enjoy this type of work, yes I did, it was the last possible thing I thought I'd ever be programming only a year before. but It was still challenging and I think it was the challenge that made it so enjoyable.

Now, that is the career part of my life, how about some of my other hobbies, lets look at Investing, which is something I spend a lot of time on and enjoy it more then most of my other hobbies. How did I come to not just hire someone to look after it for me, but to actual delve in and do it all myself? This I have to attribute to a couple of friends that I have had almost as long as I can remember, they may not have planted the original seed, but they did help germinate it into what it is today. In fact these are the same friends that I started TradersCorner.ca with. It was the conversations that we used to have about the markets, that I truly enjoyed so I naturally looked more and more into it, then I found myself reading more and more books about it, and eventually I carved my own trading style and am confident that I will be able to reach my financial goals because of this.

So what can we take from these two examples from my life? Well, In both cases, I followed someting that I enjoyed doing, both were influenced by outside factors, usually the important people in my life. But what it comes down to, is I followed in the path of something that I really enjoyed doing. So, when I think about where I am going to be in the future, I need only think about what I truly enjoy today, or have enjoyed in the past. So what do I enjoy now, well, I still enjoy investing, that is obvious, but something fairly new to my life is blogging I've been doing it for almost 7 months now, and I have learned so much, and have not even begun to become bored with it. Which, compared to most things in my life is quite an accomplishment. Just a year ago, I would think about blogs and shake my head thinking they weren't anything special, but now that I have started I have found that even though I never thought of myself as a writer, I truly enjoy writing articles for my blogs, and I hope that I will still be doign this 5 years from now. Although I am sure the technologies will change, as they so often do, I hope that writing will still be a big part of my life because I have enjoyed doing it so much.

Think about your life, and about what you currently enjoy or have enjoyed in the past. These are the things that you want to concentrate on and make them a reality for your future.
